No More McDonald’s at Bukit Merah Central
This evening, when I was at Bukit Merah Cental for dinner, I was shocked to find that the McDonald’s there was closed for good. This was sad news for me. Before that, I had heard that that McDonald’s outlet would be closed soon. Despite knowing the news, I could not help but feeling something was missing.
I remembered, the last time, I visited the restaurant was on 31st March 2010. I went there to a S$2.50 breakfast before heading to work. Little I noticed the notice that it would close at 10pm on the same day.
I am not a fan of McDonald’s, neither I am encouraging eating fast food. But the McDonald’s at Bukit Merah Central had been providing much convenience to those people like me, living or working around Bukit Merah Central.
First would be the famous McDonald’s S$2.50 breakfast consisting of Sausage McMuffin and a hot coffee/tea. Although it was only available during weekdays, excluding public holiday, it was a simple, cheap and convenient breakfast for us rushing to work. We could easily purchase the set back to the office. After finishing the McMuffin, we could slowly enjoy the coffee while doing our work.
Secondly, I found that this was a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast during lazy weekend morning. For many weekends, after waking up late, I was in a loss of what to eat. It was too late to have breakfast but too early to have lunch, and I was hungry. McDonald’s breakfast was just nice to fill in the gap. It had the elements of the breakfasts and filling enough for lunch.
Thirdly, it was located at the right spot near a bus stop where I usually alight and just near the Bukit Merah Bus Interchange. Anytime, just before I returned home, I could easily visit the restaurant to get a hot apple pie or French fries, to be consumed while walking home.
Lastly, it was opened 24 hours a day. I could go to the restaurant anytime I wanted. Occasionally, at night, being bored of the routine, I would just go to the McDonald’s to have supper.
Now, McDonald’s at Bukit Merah Central is now official closed for good. I believe there are many who like me, would miss this McDonald’s outlet. Miss the S$2.50 breakfast before rushing for work; miss the wonderful weekend breakfast; miss the convenience of grapping a quickie snack; miss the night supper. All we could hope for that, another McDonald’s outlet would be opened area the area.

Hi, Ridwan,
Thanks for your comment. According to the supermarket aunties, McDonald’s at Bukit Merah Central will be re-opened in December 2010. I hope that it is true.

I spoke to a McDonald’s staff a long time back. They told me they don’t have any plans to re-open the Bukit Merah ones.
I, too, hope they will change their plans.

Hi Kim loon, saw this post of yours. Dont worry cos MC DONALDS is back! Opening soon. Just a few more weeks. Dec 2013! The whole building is being reconstructed now and is called RUBIKON. The new owner is Victory Family Centre (the event venue upstairs will be used as a church on Sundays)

Hi Alvin,
Thanks for the comments. I had been to the new McDonald’s a few times. I like the new environment more than the previous one.
