In-Camp Training After Thoughts
After 2 and a half weeks of In Camp Training (ICT in short), I am going back to work tomorrow. As I packed away my Overalls, uniforms, etc, it is also time for me to reflect my ICT.
ICT is a period when I have a 180 degree change in my life style. This ICT was no exception.
I seldom wake up earlier than 7.15am. But during this period, I have to wake up at 6am to catch the train and then the bus service to report to camp. I was considered fortunate to be in the Navy because I did not have to stay in. My friends in the Army side have to stay in camp during their ICT.
On top of waking up early, I had to adjust to using a primitive non-camera mobile phone. MinDef has this policy that no camera-phone is allowed in the base. During the few ICT before that, I had to buy one non camera phone for ICT use only. I have search high and low to find this phone.
I am a photograph taking lover. I bought a 5-mega pixel camera phone, so that I can take photo on the go. Now I have to use a original phone… no photo taking…. but it was for only 2 weeks plus…..
During the last sailing, when we were on the way back to base, we all had the opportunity to enjoy the stary nights. Singapore is the best and the worst place on Earth to watch the stars. Singapore is almost at the equator. We can view both northern and southern hemisphere star night all year round. But Singapore is a city, the night is filled with city light. The city light has made it too bright to watch the stars.
I was out there, away from the city light, watching the stary sky. How I wished I had my camera with me, so that I can capture the beautiful sky…. with all the stars…. but… never mind. There will be opportunity in the future to take stary sky.
In this period, I have met up with some old friends and make new friends. I also said good-bye to some friends. It was their last ICT. Some, like me, are still having the same lifestyle as the last In Camp. Some had made a career change…….
